New York’s most gratuitously online Congresswoman loves being the focus of attention.

But Ocasio-Cortez just attracted some unwanted attention to herself.

And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made one claim on this official document that has questions swirling about her marital status.

Ocasio-Cortez can’t get her story straight

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed to be married on multiple disclosure forms she filed with the House Ethics Committee.

However, there is no record of her getting married.

Even though her office claims that she is not married, the prominent Democrat politician listed Attorney Riley Roberts as her spouse on disclosure forms relating to foreign travel.

While Ocasio-Cortez Press Secretary Lauren Hitt claimed that Roberts and Ocasio-Cortez are “not legally married,” she asserted to the Washington Free Beacon that “House Ethics has commonly recognized the term spouse to extend to long-term partners.”

But this is not true.

According to the official House Ethics Committee website, a spouse is strictly defined as “someone to whom you are legally married.”

The disparity between what was claimed and what is actually true could prove problematic for the Congresswoman.

If she is found to have purposely misrepresented her marital status, Ocasio-Cortez could potentially face criminal prosecution.

The other aspect of this story is that there is at least an appearance that she could be hiding something.

Elected representatives are required by law to disclose the financial information of their spouses.

So far, Ocasio-Cortez has declined to do that.

For some reason, Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t consider Roberts her spouse for the purposes of financial disclosure, but she does consider him her spouse when it comes to disclosing foreign travel.

Watchdog group calls for transparency

Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette is the senior government affairs manager at the Project on Government Oversight.

“[The congresswoman] needs to put her money where her mouth is and disclose her household finances to the public,” Hedtler-Gaudette said. “If Ocasio-Cortez is going to refer to Mr. Roberts as her spouse in the context of one kind of ethics disclosure, it would be logical and consistent for her to do so in the context of all ethics disclosures, including annual financial disclosures and periodic transaction reports.”

This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez potentially violated the House ethics rules.

The House Office of Congressional Ethics previously disclosed that there is a “substantial reason to believe” that Ocasio-Cortez improperly accepted gifts when she received tickets to the 2021 Met Gala.

That situation led to her being accused of accepting “impermissible gifts” in violation of House rules, standards of conduct, and federal law.

Given her own questionable ethics, what’s even more rich is that the Congresswoman had the audacity to attack Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas over what she deemed to be ethical lapses.

Ocasio-Cortez called for Attorney General Merrick Garland to launch a federal investigation into Thomas’ supposed “blatant disregard for judicial ethics” for “failing to report significant gifts he received from Harlan Crow and other billionaires.”

Ocasio-Cortez is giving Americans a glimpse of the massive hypocrisy that runs rampant in the Democrat Party.
