Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was in no danger of losing her House seat in Tuesday’s election.
But she was closely watching the results in her home state of New York.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reached for the knives after seeing these results in her home state.
The Big Apple bright spot for the GOP
Most political pundits were predicting a red wave in the 2022 Midterms.
While ballots are still being counted in some battleground races, elections across the country played out pretty typically.
Red states went decidedly for Republicans, blue states went just as strong for Democrats, while swing states went right down to the wire.
Except in two places – Florida and New York.
The GOP outperformed expectations in both the Sunshine State and the Empire State.
And it is only thanks to Florida and New York that Republicans appear to be poised to take control of a narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Ron DeSantis fought to get the most potential House pickups in redistricting, while other Republican Governors compromised on incumbent protection maps instead.
It resulted in six red pickups so far.
Meanwhile, in New York, Republican Lee Zeldin ran such a surprisingly strong campaign against incumbent Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul – losing by just 5.5 points.
To give an idea of scope, in 2018, Gov. Andrew Cuomo won re-election by about 23.5 points.
Zeldin’s strong performance at the top of the ticket was enough to lift several Congressional candidates in the Empire State, and allowed the GOP to pick up four seats.
On a night where the GOP couldn’t win in the suburbs of Kansas, they made huge gains in New York’s blue turf.
AOC calls out her own state party
And now one of the most notorious elected officials in all of Gotham is fit to be tied over the blue team’s election day showing.
NYS Dem party leadership, which was gutted under Cuomo, stuffed with lobbyists, works to boost GOP, and failed to pass a basic state ballot measure to protect NY redistricting, must be accountable.

Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is so enraged with the Democrat Party’s performance Tuesday, she’s publicly calling for new leadership in the state party.
“NYS Dem party leadership, which was gutted under [former Gov. Andrew] Cuomo, stuffed with lobbyists, works to boost GOP, and failed to pass a basic state ballot measure to protect NY redistricting, must be accountable,” AOC tweeted. “I called for Jay Jacob’s (sic) resignation a year ago and I still hold that position.”
Jacobs is the current chair of the New York state Democrat Party.
“After leading the party to a catastrophic ballot measure loss that would’ve saved Dem House seats, the party chair (Jacobs) compared a Black woman Dem nominee to the KKK,” AOC continued. “He was protected. Last night’s underperformance is a consequence of that decision.”
To AOC’s point, The New York Times analysis of election results shows that virtually every county in New York shifted toward the Right in the 2022 Governor’s election compared to the 2020 election.
While Hochul won statewide by 5.5 points, in 2020 Biden carried the state by 23 points, only a half-point off of Cuomo’s 2018 Governor’s race.
As for AOC, she won her Brooklyn district by 43 points Tuesday.
