The political elites operate under a completely different set of rules in America.
No amount of corruption or failure ever seems to prevent certain members of the protected class from landing on their feet.
And Anthony Fauci just got a sweet new gig after departing the Biden administration in a sea of controversy.
Dr. Anthony Fauci infamously became the face of the response to the COVID pandemic after he was tapped by former President Donald Trump in March of 2020 to serve on the White House Coronavirus Task Force.
He came under increased criticism for initially telling Americans not to wear masks before eventually changing his recommendation, which caused states and local governments to enact strict mask requirements for months during the pandemic.
Joe Biden later named Fauci as the Chief Medical Advisor to the President.
It sounds like Fauci lied about gain-of-function research
Fauci faced intense backlash after he said under oath that the NIH “has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research” at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Those claims later appeared to be false, as information obtained by The Intercept suggested that the NIH funded gain-of-function research in China.
Fauci was involved in a heated exchange with Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) during a COVID Senate hearing about unethical conduct and false statements last year, but he stepped down in December after working for nearly four decades as the Director of the NIAID, which falls under the NIH.
The NIH funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan, which is believed to be ground zero for COVID.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) said “there is significant evidence that COVID-19 originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which received gain-of-research grants and funding. Similar research programs should not receive any funding until we can confirm where COVID-19 came from, and what can be done to prevent another global crisis.”
Failing upward
Now it appears that Fauci, like so many in and around the government, has failed upwards.
Georgetown President John J. DeGioia said “we are deeply honored to welcome Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, a dedicated public servant, humanitarian and visionary global health leader, to Georgetown. Dr. Fauci has embodied the Jesuit value of being in service to others throughout his career, and we are grateful to have his expertise, strong leadership and commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders to meet the pressing issues of our time.”
