Many Americans agree that limiting the rights of law-abiding gun owners is not a smart way to tackle crime.
But Democrat lawmakers across the nation are taking steps to ban guns in ways previously thought to be impractical.
And anti-gun radicals were stunned when this one Sheriff stood his ground.
New Mexico just upped the ante on guns
Diminishing the rights of law-abiding gun owners has been at the very top of the radical Left’s agenda for quite some time.
However, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently passed sweeping measures designed to practically abolish legal gun ownership.
More specifically, Grisham signed an order that temporarily suspended open and concealed carry laws in Bernalillo County for at least 30 days starting on September 8.
“As I said yesterday, the time for standard measures has passed,” Grisham wrote in a statement. “And when New Mexicans are afraid to be in crowds, to take their kids to school, to leave a baseball game – when their very right to exist is threatened by the prospect of violence at every turn – something is very wrong.”
This unconstitutional and illegal order has caused tremendous backlash across New Mexico, especially from law enforcement personnel.
One such individual is Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen, who vowed to stand by his oath to the United States Constitution and not enforce the order.
“It’s unconstitutional, so there’s no way we can enforce that order,” Allen said at a news conference. ”This ban does nothing to curb gun violence.”
He added that “we must always remember not only are we protecting the Second Amendment, but at the same time, we have a lot of violence within our community. Let me be clear, I hold my standards high, and I do not or never will hedge on what is right.”
Grisham responded to these scathing remarks by saying “I don’t need a lecture on constitutionality from Sheriff Allen: what I need is action.”
“We’ve given you the tools, Sheriff Allen — now stop being squeamish about using them,” she added. “I will not back down from doing what’s right and I will always put the safety of the people of New Mexico first.”
Grisham’s orders have nothing to do with stopping gun violence
As Sheriff Allen noted in his press conference, Grisham’s orders have nothing to do with stopping gun violence.
Instead, these orders are designed to punish her political enemies.
Rarely are gun crimes committed by law-abiding gun owners with concealed carry permits.
Instead of punishing law-abiding citizens, Grisham should focus on closing down the border, which is where most of New Mexico’s problems originate.
Police do not have the resources they need to keep their citizens safe and Grisham is largely to blame for this.
