Christians on both sides of the aisle seem to agree on this one topic

Millions of Americans are waiting for a major spiritual intervention to cure our national soul.

Unfortunately, the modern-day Christian movement is marred by division over cultural issues.

But Christians on both sides of the aisle seem to agree on this one topic.

Christians are divided over cultural issues with a biblical imperative

Heading into the 2024 election, millions of Americans had one thing on their mind – getting the country back on the right track. 

In October, Gallup conducted their annual survey asking whether American’s believed our country was on the right track or not. 

The overwhelming answer was “no.”

According to the survey, a staggering 74 percent of Americans believed that we were on the wrong track as a nation. 

That was down from a 10-year high in early 2020 when nearly half of Americans believed things were going in the right direction.

That 74 percent would lead most people to believe that there was consensus among most groups going into the 2024 election. 

But Christians in America were surprisingly divided over a whole host of controversial cultural issues. 

Abortion was marked as important to only 41 percent of Christians. 

Similarly, only 42 percent of Christians were concerned about government mismanagement. 

And only 43 percent believed that something needed to be done about homelessness and poverty.

 All topics seem to have a Christian imperative attached, but the consensus just wasn’t there.

Last weekend, two Christian influencers sat down to discuss their biggest concerns.

“When you have influence, you should try to use the influence to serve your neighbor”

Christian rapper Lecrae brought Justin Giboney, a Democrat, and Cory Ruth, a Republican, on his podcast Deep End to discuss the polarized political climate ahead of the election. 

The two influencers represented the Right and the Left sides of the political spectrum.

The one thing they agreed on was that more Christians needed to get involved in the civic process. 

Giboney made the point that many people in modern politics feel that they don’t have an influence on electoral politics. 

But he sees it differently.

“As someone who has a vote, that means you have influence,” he said, before adding that “for a Christian, when you have influence, you should try to use that influence to serve your neighbor, do good.” 

“When you get an opportunity to help somebody, you should do it,” he said.

Ruth echoed his concern by saying that it is a citizen’s obligation to be a part of the process. 

Quoting 2 Timothy 2:15, he said Christians “should take as a principle, as a people, that we are going to be the most informed people in the American body politic.” 

Ruth said that only “when you have a mastery of the issues” can you truly be “civil.”

Over 100 million eligible Christian voters had no interest in voting

The pair of influencers made their assessment in response to troubling statistics from Arizona Christian University (ACU) that showed millions of Christians were planning to sit out the 2024 election. 

The data came out of a survey conducted by the Cultural Research Center at ACU from August to September of this year.

The study, led by Dr. George Barna, showed that just over half of “faith voters” would be participating. 

That amounted to over 100 million eligible voters. 

The number included some 41 million born-again Christians, 32 million regular church attendees, and 14 million self-described Evangelicals. 

Barna said that Christian voters could have been a “game changer” in this year’s election. 

“Christians could be the deciding factor in a bunch of federal and state races,” Lee Munsil, President of ACU stated, before adding that they were “choosing not to be.” 

Munsil pointed to a lack of faith in the government as a reason for the disengagement. 

“The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 29:2 that ‘when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan,” he said.

It’s time for Christians to get active and become the salt of the world again.
