The new boss at the once proud CNN is trying to turn things around.
He has been cutting staff, shedding unpopular and unprofessional hosts, and trying to give the network credibility again.
That’s why CNN’s new boss just banned this activity for CNN hosts on New Year’s Eve.
It may not have been professional, but it was admittedly fun watching Don Lemon make bad decisions ringing in 2018.
And in 2019 it was good entertainment to see Anderson Cooper moan on live TV.
Of course, who can forget all of CNN’s drunken antics last year!
Honestly, it might have been the only time of the year that CNN was ever worth watching these days.
CNN has become a laughingstock
The problem with all of that is CNN is supposed to be a serious and respected news channel.
But over the past few years it has turned into nothing more than a radical leftist laughingstock.
The ratings for CNN have dropped so far down that they are regularly beat by not just Fox but by reruns on comedy networks.
Hosts such as Don Lemon, Brian Stelter, and others become comical figures that literally no one wanted to watch, unless they wanted a good laugh.
But CNN’s new boss, Chris Licht, is determined to change that culture and restore the network to its once-held status as a leading news source.
Licht has let quite a few hosts and staff go, has restructured the network’s programming, and is even looking to control their drinking.
Licht will reportedly not allow employees to drink during the network’s annual broadcast of New Year’s Eve.
Sobriety is the new standard at CNN
This is all part of Licht’s attempt to rebrand the network as a serious news channel instead of a SNL punch line.
Licht, who will be in CNN’s control room on New Year’s Eve personally monitoring the broadcast, has decided that sobriety among CNN’s employees during the New Year’s Eve telecast will be mandatory.
The announcement follows both Lemon’s drunken exploits in 2018 and anchor Anderson Cooper and Bravo executive Andy Cohen’s drunken performance last year.
The two were seen on live air tossing back tequila shots and Cooper was also heard loudly moaning during the drunken airing.
According to sources at CNN, initially Licht said in one internal meeting that Anderson Cooper and Cohen will be permitted to drink again this year.
This got Cooper’s back up and he told network executives he was worried the perception would be that only the two white hosts would be permitted to drink.
Licht clarified through an aide – “Chris made an offhand remark in a town hall about drinking during the NYE program,” the aide said. “Shortly after, he proactively reached out to Anderson to clarify that his comments were meant as a joke and that he preferred no drinking on air at all.”
Not everyone is happy about the sobriety order
Not surprisingly, not everyone was happy about Licht’s decision.
And of course, not everyone is planning on letting Licht’s sobriety order ruin their fun.
After the news was announced, Cohen said that since the correspondents will not be drinking this year, he “will be partying even harder on their behalf.”
But Licht’s changes to the primetime broadcast come only after CNN was blasted for airing live “raunchy” and drunken tweets posted by obvious pranksters.
As reported by the Daily Beast, “Online trolls got CNN to post New Year’s Eve tweets from ‘Ben Dover’ and ‘Dixie Normus.’”

So, it seems this year’s CNN broadcast will be more serious and “news like” but likely not as fun.
Maybe 2023 will usher in a new CNN that actually also reports news and not just propaganda from the Left.
