There once was a time when stand-up comedians were a cultural looking glass for the country to reflect upon.
That all changed.
But Dave Chappelle is standing up to the radical transgender movement, and he won’t be silenced.
Chappelle is ready to deliver “hilarious new material” in the wake of “craziness”
Stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle is picking up where he left off after radical transgender activists sought to cancel his career. He took a major beating from the Left after people in the trans community didn’t like the way he poked fun at the woke movement.
His new tour, called Dave Chappelle Live, debuts in Ontario, California, and wraps up with a final show at the United Center in Chicago.
Chapelle’s website tells his fans that “with all the craziness of the last few years, you know that Chappelle’s got plenty of hilarious new material to work with.”
The last time Chappelle came out with new content was his Netflix special, The Closer.
Netflix workers tried to cancel Chappelle – but the CEO stood with comedy
The special in 2021 featured jokes that the radical Left described as transphobic and homophobic. They said that the comedian shouldn’t have made jokes about the community because it posed a threat to them. Netflix employees staged a massive walkout in protest of the special.
The employees hoped that it would put pressure on executives to cancel the show and stand with the LGBTQ movement. However, it didn’t go the way they hoped. Instead, then-CEO Ted Sarandos refused to back down from supporting Chappelle.
“Chappelle is one of the most popular stand-up comedians today,” he wrote at the time. “We [Netflix] have a long-standing deal with him. His last special Sticks & Stones, also controversial, is our most watched, stickiest, and most award winning stand-up special to date.”
While he encouraged “creative freedom,” Sarandos would eventually say that he “screwed up” his handling of the controversy.
Chappelle won’t even allow attacks on his personal safety to slow him down
The rhetoric lobbed at Chappelle has had real world consequences for the comedian. At the Hollywood Bowl in 2022, a man climbed on stage with Chappelle and lunged at him with a knife. The man was quickly detained and arrested.
According to LAPD officials, Isaiah Lee was armed “with a replica gun that could eject a knife blade when discharged correctly.” Despite the obvious danger posed to Chappelle, Lee was only charged with four misdemeanors for the attack.
Chappelle has pushed back on these radicals for his entire career, and he didn’t let them ruin his memory in a venue that has been host to the best comedians in American history. Following the attack, his representative said that he “refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment.”
