Democrat lawmakers are asking the Pentagon to violate state laws and proceed with this practice

Democrats have proven time and time again that they believe their ideologies should be above the law.

They’ve disregarded court decisions and called on unrest from their base when they didn’t get their way.

Now Democrat lawmakers are asking the Pentagon to violate state laws and proceed with this practice.

Democrats think the Pentagon should “protect abortion”

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, Democrat activists totally lost their minds. They called for massive protests and for their fellow lawmakers to codify abortion nationwide. Instead, lawmakers around the country moved forward with outlawing the practice in their states.

Now Senate Democrats are showing they will stop at nothing to continue to abort children in every state across the country. Since they’re not getting the progress they want through legislative action, they’re now calling for the military to do something about it.

In a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin that was signed by 38 Democrat Senators, the radical Left called for the Pentagon to “protect abortion” even if it means violating laws decided by state legislators around the country.

Austin has since made some policy directives to appease the Democrats.

But apparently they were not enough.

Abortions are “imperative” and impact “military readiness”

After Democrats praised Austin for making changes to the military,  they then told him they want to see more. They called access to abortion “imperative” to women’s rights and said more action is necessary.

“It is imperative that the Department of Defense continue to take action to protect the rights of service members and their families to access abortion care,” the letter said. They cited a study by the RAND Corporation that “estimates that 40% of active duty women” have limited or no access to abortions.

They said that laws enacted by state legislatures “send a message that the United States does not trust those who serve in uniform…to make their own decisions about their health care and families,” adding that the laws “jeopardize the health and overall readiness of our military.”

Democrats believe that a lack of abortion access will impact our national security and called it “unacceptable that service members or their dependents should face limited or no access” due to their geographic locations.

However, they admitted that the issue is not new to service members.

Military healthcare has long prohibited abortions under TRICARE

Abortion services have been “prohibited under TRICARE and at military treatment facilities” except in extenuating circumstances. The letter from Democrats recognized this and said that “prior to the Dobbs decision, most service members sought abortion care through civilian clinics, at their own expense.”

Now they say that “abortion restrictions and bans only force service members to travel farther to states that have not restricted abortion,” which they say compromises their “financial security…and military readiness.”

Democrats said these military members “should not be forced to needlessly risk their personal health and safety” for what they called “routine health care.”

And now they’re calling on the Department of Defense to “consider the availability and accessibility of health care, including abortion…when making basing decisions.” It’s unclear how the military will go about this.
