The sweepstakes to be Donald Trump’s Vice President is reaching its end game.

But a surprising name is now being added to the list.

And Donald Trump revealed one wildcard pick on the shortlist to be his running mate.

Donald Trump meets with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin

Former President Donald Trump met with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin at Trump National Golf Club in Loudoun County, Virginia.

The pair reportedly met to discuss the state of play in Virginia for the 2024 election.

Trump lost the state by 10 points in the 2020 election, but polling suggests that it could be competitive this cycle.

Several recent polls have shown the former President in a virtual tie in Virginia with Joe Biden.

No Republican has carried the state since former President George W. Bush in the 2004 election.

Youngkin emerged on the national scene when he won Virginia’s gubernatorial race in 2021.

He became the first Republican to win statewide in Virginia since 2009, and the state’s proximity to Washington, D.C. made him a favorite of the Republican establishment.

Now he’s been added to the list of contenders to be Trump’s running mate.

Fox News reporter Aishah Hasnie asked the former President if he would consider Youngkin for Vice President after their meeting.

“He’s great,” Trump said. “And I think I could consider that. Yes. I haven’t, I haven’t been asked that question, but he would be on that list. He’s very good. We had a great meeting about Virginia.”

Youngkin has distanced himself from Trump since he ran for Governor.

He only endorsed Trump in the Republican Presidential Primary after everyone else had dropped out.

The former President had taken shots at him in the past, but that now appears to be water under the bridge.

Youngkin told 13News Now that his meeting with Trump was about turning Virginia red this November.

“With all of the polls that have come out that have demonstrated that Virginia is competitive at the Presidential level, and particularly with regards to Joe Biden winning the state by 10 points four years ago, there’s a lot of interest in how this election is going to go,” Youngkin told 13News Now. “We talked about Virginia and how I was able to win my election in 2021 and the lessons learned.”

Donald Trump drops another hint about his running mate

After he huddled with Youngkin in Virginia, Trump headed to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. for a meeting with House and Senate Republicans.

Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie asked him again after a meeting if he knew who his Vice Presidential selection would be.

He told her he had “sort of a pretty good idea” of who he was going to pick to be his running mate.

“Probably. I don’t want to go, but I think (it) will probably get announced during the convention,” Trump said. “During the convention. There were some good people and we have some very good people.”

Donald Trump’s running mate will be the subject of intense speculation until the big announcement is finally made.
