It’s no secret that Donald Trump is a massive fan of music and loves nothing more than taking control of the playlist at every chance he gets.
From Frank Sinatra to Johnny Cash to the Rolling Stones to James Brown, the former President has a massive catalog of favorites.
And Elton John made a comment about Donald Trump that has Democrats coming apart at the seams.
Deejay Trump
Back in August, Axios released a report in which some of former President Donald Trump’s “closest friends” revealed his alter ego as “Deejay Trump.”
According to the report, anytime the former President is at Mar-a-Lago, he “controls the surround-sound stereo system on the breezy dining patio with his big iPad and its Spotify list,” oftentimes playing his favorite tunes “so loud that people have trouble talking.”
“He seems like a kid with a new toy every time he turns on that iPad,” Axios wrote. “It feels like the first time he’s heard or shared the crooning of Sinatra or the life-hard-lived edge of Cash.”
And within that report, the outlet noted some of Trump’s personal favorite artists and bands, including the aforementioned Frank Sinatra and Johnny Cash, as well as James Brown, REM, Guns N’ Roses, Lionel Ritchie, and Elton John.
As the New York Times pointed out in July of 2018, the former President has long been a fan of Elton John and has complimented him multiple times over the years in his books.
“There’s so much great music,” Trump wrote in his 2004 book, Think Like A Billionaire. “For me, I’d have to say it’s a toss up between Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Elton John.”
“I never get tired of listening to them and probably never will,” he added.
Trump even hosted a benefit concert for the Elton John Aids Foundation at Mar-a-Lago in 2006.
The event raised $1.4 million for the charity and violated Palm Beach’s capacity code in the process.
Nevertheless, it’s no secret that John isn’t a fan of Trump’s political endeavors.
He previously endorsed former First Lady Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“Good on you, Donald”
During a recent Variety interview, a reporter attempted to lead John into railing against Trump by asking how it felt when the former President created his “Little Rocket Man” nickname for North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
“You’re not a supporter of Trump,” the Variety reporter began. “He loves your music. How did it feel when he took the lyrics to Rocket Man and used it as a nickname for Kim Jon Un?”
But John didn’t take the bait.
In fact, he went in the opposite direction and admitted that he not only laughed, but he also cheered on the former President’s use of the nickname.
“I laughed,” John responded. “I thought it was brilliant. I just thought ‘Good on you, Donald.’ I’m the rocket man.”
And to make matters even worse for the self-proclaimed “journalist,” Elton John went on to talk about how “friendly” he and the former President’s relationship has been and how much he appreciates his support over the years.
“Donald’s always been a fan of mine and he has been to my concerts many, many times, so, I mean, I’ve always been friendly towards him and I,” he continued. “I thank him for his support. I just thought [the nickname] was hilarious. It made me laugh.”
NEW: Elton John says Trump’s “Rocket Man” nickname for Kim Jong Un was “brilliant” after an interviewer appeared to try to set him up with an opportunity to slam Trump.
The comments came during an interview with Variety.

That certainly wasn’t what the Variety reporter was hoping to achieve with his interview.
But it is rather refreshing to see a major celebrity who has a long history of being “friendly” with Donald Trump not take bait on attacking him every chance he gets.
