Like most mainstream content producers, HBO has spent decades injecting the radical Left’s agenda into its content.
The network has made perfectly clear where it stands.
But HBO just took a major stand against the woke left-wing outrage mob that no one saw coming.
HBO is set to Max out
As part of corporate restructuring that resulted from the merger of Warner Media and Discovery, Inc., subsidiaries of the newly-formed Warner Bros. Discovery have undergone some changes.
The new board of directors at Warner Bros. Discovery has been attempting to rebuild CNN into a legitimate news network.
But while the CNN debacle has produced more headlines, it’s the company’s HBO Max streaming service that is actually going to dictate much of its future.
Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced a long-rumored plan to combine the offerings from HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming services into one product, which will be branded simply as Max.
However, while the Max announcement certainly caught the attention of Wall Street, the left-wing outrage mob took it upon themselves to fly off the handle over one new Max series.
In announcing the Max rebrand, Warner Bros. Discovery also confirmed reported rumors that the streaming service would be producing a new program based on the best-selling book series of all-time, Harry Potter.
Obviously looking to find an established brand with a built-in fan base to anchor the streaming platform the same way Game of Thrones has for HBO, the network’s CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys announced that the new Harry Potter series on Max would be a “faithful” adaptation of the book series and would roll out over a 10-year period.
But Bloys also confirmed another reported rumor associated with the new series that left Democrats nearly inconsolable.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer for the series.
“You’re done, over, out…”
Rowling, of course, has long been an icon of the Left – particularly with third-wave feminism of the 1990’s.
But she’s also ran afoul of today’s fourth-wave feminists and gender extremists for believing in the scientific fact of biological sex and that women’s rights and their “lived reality” would be “erased” if “sex isn’t real.”
As a survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence, Rowling argued that while transgender people are “vulnerable” and “deserved protection,” she believes it wouldn’t be safe to allow “any man who believes or feels he’s a woman” into women’s bathrooms and other areas.
All of this has led Rowling to be canceled by the left-wing outrage mob, thus rendering her completely unhireable in the eyes of Democrats.
Nevertheless, HBO stood up to the pressure from the left-wing outrage mob, as Bloys stated that the company has been “in the Harry Potter business” for decades and won’t be allowing what happens off-screen to dictate how they make decisions.
“J.K. is an executive producer, and her insights will be helpful,” Bloys said. “We are in the Harry Potter business.”
“The TV show is new and exciting, but we’ve been in the Harry Potter business for 20 years – this isn’t a new decision,” he added. “We’re comfortable being in the Potter business.”
The HBO and MAX CEO and Chairman also went on to make the jaw-dropping, but undeniably true, argument that the conversation is simply an online ordeal mainly driven by the left-wing echo chamber of social media.
“J.K. is a very online conversation,” Bloys explained. “It’s very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into. Our priority is what’s on-screen. The Harry Potter story is incredibly affirmative and positive about love and acceptance, and that’s our priority – what’s on the screen.”
To prove Bloys’ observation correct, TV blogger Sean T. Collins claimed that anyone who interviews “an actor or filmmaker or executive involved with the Harry Potter tv show and don’t lead with a question about JK Rowling leading a hate group you’re done, over, out of the art club.”
For her part, Rowling went on to release a statement expressing her appreciation that Max is committed to preserving the integrity of her canon and eagerness to explore the world of Harry Potter in “a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”
There’s clearly little doubt that the executives at Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO, and Max would have already bowed to the left-wing outrage mob’s pressure if the multi-billion dollar Harry Potter franchise wasn’t a proven cash cow that Max desperately needs to get a leg up in the streaming wars.
And the media conglomerate will undoubtedly continue to push some level of extreme left-wing ideology with their content.
But HBO taking any stand to defend J.K. Rowling is nonetheless a promising sign that maybe corporations are starting to understand the reality of “go woke, go broke.”
