While campaigning for President Joe Biden made no secret he supports open borders.
So, it should come as no surprise that a surge of illegals since his election have created a crisis on the U.S. southern border.
Now Biden is on the verge of defunding ICE as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rejoices.
Biden’s crisis on the U.S. southern border
Immigration and Customs Enforcement is about to run out of money.
Thanks to the Biden administration’s immigration policies, there has been a massive surge in illegals at the border.
In fact, May saw yet another single-month record of border crossings.
Customs and Border Patrol agents had 239,416 migrant encounters at the southwest border in May 2022 – including 14,699 unaccompanied minors.
And the Biden administration decided to keep 58% of the illegal immigrants in the interior of the United States.
That’s a nearly 33% increase from the prior year and a staggering 930.3% jolt from May 2020, prior to President Biden taking the oath of office.
The May record represents the highest number of monthly encounters in the last two decades.
And May was the 15th straight month with more than 150,000 encounters.
Since President Biden took office, there have been over 2.9 million encounters with illegals at the southern border.
It’s also important to note, “encounter” numbers do not include border crossers who escape immigration authorities.
CBP sources quietly revealed that there have been 440,000 “known got aways” at the border since Fiscal Year 2022 began.
Creating a costly crisis
ICE has been forced to go above and beyond it’s budget to combat the record-setting crisis.
At its current pace, ICE will be out of funds for 2022 sometime in October – meaning they wouldn’t be able to operate in November or December.
ICE officials estimate they’re about $345 million shy of being able to fully operate for the remainder of the year.
Wasting time is wasting money
Axios is reporting, ICE officials have said along with the massive number of illegals the agency is dealing with, they also are having to spend money not currently budgeted for to adhere to new Biden administration regulations.
The administration’s shift to alternatives to detention has resulted in roughly 300,000 illegal aliens – spouses or children – are currently enrolled in contracted tracking programs, at great expense to the agency.
New White House policies have also forced ICE to spend about $15-Million on training agents to obey Biden’s enforcement priorities – which were recently struck down by a federal court.
They’ve had to spend another $14 million toward an increase in detained illegal aliens making calls – including international calls to family members.
And ICE spent $100 million to restart Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy, in line with court orders – until a recent Supreme Court ruling allowed the Biden administration to end the successful program.
Biden’s Department of Homeland Security would need to reallocate other funds from other places under its purview to fund ICE through the holiday season.
According to Axios, DHS is considering moving $100 million from the Coast Guard budget over to ICE.
Axios is also reporting DHS is asking ICE officials to move $80 million in existing ICE funds around internally.
