Distributing wealth has always been a core tenet of the Left’s economic and political platform.
But as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once said, “the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
And Joe Biden just laid down the groundwork for this major government handout.
The White House has not given up on student loan forgiveness
During his 2020 campaign, Joe Biden promised to approve sweeping student loan forgiveness for millions of Americans.
So far, he and his administration have forgiven billions of dollars in debt, despite facing several substantial legal hurdles.
Most notably, last year the Supreme Court shot down Biden’s attempt to forgive as much as $400 billion in student debt since the President lacks the authority to take such actions.
Nonetheless, Joe Biden has pushed forward in his attempt to forgive student debt.
And the White House unveiled its newest scheme to do so this week.
The White House announced that tens of millions of borrowers will start receiving emails in the coming months with potential options regarding loan forgiveness.
It should come as no surprise that these emails will start going out around the time of the election.
The Department of Education offered some clarification about these emails.
“These rules, if finalized as proposed, would bring the total number of borrowers eligible for student debt relief to over 30 million, including borrowers who have already been approved for debt cancellation by the Biden-Harris Administration over the past three years,” they wrote.
However, the Department of Education added that receiving the “email does not guarantee specific borrowers will be eligible.”
On Wednesday, Joe Biden released a statement on the matter.
“Today, my Administration took another major step to cancel student debt for approximately 30 million Americans,” he wrote. “By providing more information to borrowers on how they can take advantage of our upcoming debt relief programs, borrowers will be prepared to benefit swiftly once the rules are final.”
Critics of these student debt forgiveness schemes worry that they would significantly increase inflation, which continues to punish Americans.
Furthermore, many believe that this move serves as nothing more than bait for young voters as Election Day approaches.
Joe Biden’s obsession with canceling student debt demonstrates his disdain for the Supreme Court
Last summer, the Supreme Court made it abundantly clear that the President of the United States lacks the broad authority to cancel student loans.
But Joe Biden and his administration have completely ignored this ruling, spitting in the face of the Constitution and the system of checks and balances it establishes.
Earlier this week, Joe Biden even proposed groundbreaking changes to the Supreme Court, including term limits, a code of conduct, and measures to overturn their ruling on Presidential immunity.
These attacks on the Supreme Court demonstrate the unwillingness of the Biden administration to respect the Constitution and the rule of law.
