Joe Biden’s National Security Advisor scrambled to clean up his remarks on Taiwan that could have ignited WWIII

When President Trump left office in 2021, he left Joe Biden with a largely peaceful world.

But Biden’s carelessness on the world stage has made the world a more dangerous place.

And Joe Biden’s National Security Advisor scrambled to clean up his remarks on Taiwan that could have ignited WWIII.

“We’re not encouraging their being independent,” but we will defend Taiwan

To the surprise of many, President Biden did an interview with 60 minutes recently.

In the interview, he said a lot of things that drew much ire from the public and surprisingly even the media.

One of the biggest gaffes he made was about China’s claim to Taiwan.

“We agree with what we signed onto a long time ago,” Biden said, “there’s one China policy, and Taiwan makes their own judgments about their independence. We are not moving—we’re not encouraging their being independent. We’re not—that—that’s their decision.”

However, when asked if U.S. forces would defend the island in case of an invasion he replied, “Yes, if in fact there was an unprecedented attack.”

So according to Biden, we would send American soldiers to fight the Chinese if they tried to take Taiwan – even though our ambiguous neutrality on the question is part of the “One China policy.”

Beijing claims U.S. “violated the longstanding” One China policy

As hard as it is to understand, Taiwan has recognized itself as independent of China for nearly 80 years.

The U.S. has always in a sense sided with the Chinese Communist Party in referring to Taiwan as part of China.

Though we have always provided arms and munitions to Taiwan for their self-defense.

China is not happy with Biden’s interview.

They view it as offering direct military support toward Taiwan’s independence.

Beijing abruptly issued a statement following Biden’s interview stating that his remarks “violated the longstanding policy of the U.S. not supporting Taiwan’s independence.”

They furthered that “China strongly deplores and rejects it and has made solemn complaints with the U.S.”

Pelosi already put Taipei in the crosshairs of Beijing

Taiwan has been subject to Chinese military exercises that began after Pelosi visited Taipei this summer.

Now the conversation of invasion has been renewed forcing Washington, D.C. to backtrack.

Biden’s National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan took to the podium to try to smooth things over.

Sullivan made the claim that Biden was still behind the One China policy and that they “continue to stand against unilateral changes to the status quo and continue to stand for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

Sullivan then called the invasion of Taiwan “hypothetical” as if it’s not possible.

Biden wants to please everyone and it’s not going to work out in the end

Under proper conditions, Biden apparently would order the U.S. military to defend Taiwan.

But Biden said directly, “the idea that it can be taken by force, just taken by force, is just not appropriate. It will dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine. My expectation is it will not happen. It will not be attempted.”

He wants to seem to recognize the long-standing One China policy, but also wants open commerce with Taiwan in all circumstances.

In other words, Biden is trying to have his cake and eat it too.

Biden’s need to please everyone is not safe for stability.

We need peace through strength again.
