President Joe Biden can’t seem to make up his mind if China is a friend or foe to the United States.
However, Chinese President Xi Jinping is leaving no question about his feelings for America.
And now Josh Hawley just did the one thing Joe Biden does not have the courage to do.
China is trying to own America
China’s ownership of agricultural land in the United States has increased dramatically over the past decade.
At the end of 2020, Chinese entities held more than 338,000 acres of land — a 350% jolt from the 75,000 acres they held at the end of 2010.
Furthermore, as of the end of 2021, Fox News reported nearly 1% of all foreign-owned U.S. agricultural land had been bought by China.
And they keep adding to their collection.
There are numerous reasons why the Chinese Community Party might want to own huge swaths of rural land here in the United States, including pricing Americans out of being able to purchase farm or ranch land of their own.
Furthermore, most of the land China is buying is located near military bases.
Chinese company Fufeng Group purchased 300 acres of land in North Dakota for $2.6 million last year.
The Fufeng Group claims they intend to put a milling plant on the land.
However, the 300 acres just so happens to be right next to a North Dakota Air Force base.
And other similar examples are popping up all over the country.
Hawley takes the stand Biden refuses to take
President Joe Biden doesn’t seem to grasp the seriousness of this problem.
But America-First Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri is taking action to try and solve it.
Hawley introduced the This Land is Our Land Act in the Senate, which would ban Chinese corporations and individuals associated with the Chinese Communist Party from owning United States agricultural land.
“No Chinese corporation or individual associated with the CCP should be permitted to own American farmland,”Hawley said. “It undermines the integrity of our nation’s food supply chain, it presents national security threats when the land is in close proximity to military installations, and it hurts American farmers.”
Hawley’s bill would not only stop future purchases of rural land by the CCP, but it also retroactively mitigates the problem.
The This Land is Our Land Act would require Chinese corporations and individuals affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party to divest ownership of United States agricultural land within two years.
Additionally, if passed and signed into law, it would establish civil fines and criminal penalties for noncompliance such as forfeiture of land.
Hawley has been eyeing this problem for a while now.
“What is abundantly clear after Biden’s Chinese spying debacle is that no Chinese corporation should be permitted to own American farmland,” Hawley Tweeted last month. “I’m introducing legislation to stop it. Protect American farmers.”
But Hawley didn’t just tweet about it as evidenced by the This Land is Our Land Act.
He is doing something about it that President Joe Biden does not have the courage to do.
