California Republicans are trying to enlist Mel Gibson to run for Governor.
Gibson has declined, citing too much work already on his plate.
And now the A-list actor just gave fans the one update they’ve been waiting for.
The Passion of the Christ was released on February 25, 2004.
Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel teamed up to make cinematic history with the film, generating more than $612-Million at the box office, won the People’s Choice award for favorite motion picture drama, and was nominated for three Academy Awards.
Additionally, Caviezel was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for best male performance.
But the Lethal Weapon star isn’t one to rest on his laurels.
It has been common knowledge around Hollywood circles that Gibson is working hard to make a sequel to The Passion of the Christ.

However, the movie has suffered from several roadblocks and delays.
Many fans had given up hope, believing the much-anticipated sequel would never come to fruition.
But Mad Mel dropped a bombshell announcement earlier this year on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
Gibson told Rogan that production is indeed in progress and the faith-based film officially had a name.

While the original was The Passion of the Christ – the follow-up will be The Resurrection of the Christ.
And now the award-winning director is back with a new update that will have fans crying hallelujah.
The Resurrection gets a time and place
Variety is reporting that Gibson’s project now has both a filming start date and location.
According to Variety, filming will begin in August.
This is at least a half-year ahead of the originally projected filming start date, so fans may be watching the resurrection play out on the big screen sooner than expected.
Variety’s second update is equally exciting for film buffs.
The Resurrection of the Christ will be shot in the same location that hosted The Passion of the Christ.
The beautiful and gigantic Rome’s Cinecittà Studios will once again be home for the Gibson project.
There are some additional small southern Italy towns that have also been announced for some on-location shoots for the movie.
Matera, Ginosa, Gravina Laterza, and Altamura will all be featured in some scenes.
Mel Gibson is ready to go to Hell.
Gibson is once again teaming up with his Braveheart co-screenwriter, Randall Wallace for The Resurrection of the Christ.
“The evangelical community considers The Passion the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger,” Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2016. “I always wanted to tell this story. The Passion is the beginning, and there’s a lot more story to tell.”
Gibson has shed some light on what that “more story to tell” might look like.
“I think in order to really tell the story properly you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm,” Gibson stated back in 2022. “You need to go to Hell.”
