One such Democrat is former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is furious after San Francisco’s Archbishop refused to give her communion for her radical stance in favor of abortion.
In fact, Nancy Pelosi was barred from taking communion back in May of 2022 after Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone wrote a letter informing her that “a Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others.”
He later added that he has made numerous attempts to discuss abortion with Pelosi and that he wants “to help her understand the grave evil she is perpetrating, the scandal she is causing, and the danger to her own soul she is risking.”
Pelosi responded to this letter last Thursday while speaking at an event at Georgetown University’s Center on Faith and Justice.
At the speaking engagement, Pelosi said “I have a problem with my Archbishop, and I figure that’s his problem, not mine.”
“We go right to the one issue, because everything else, we are pretty much in sync when it comes to the social compact of the Catholic bishops and the rest,” she added. “But they are willing to abandon the bulk of it because of one thing.”
In these statements, Pelosi refuses to take even an ounce of blame for her religious issues.
Instead, she blames her Archbishop.
