When leftist Democrats decided to defund the police after the death of George Floyd in 2020, the effects were disastrous.
That decision nearly cost Democrats the House in 2020 and it surely contributed to their eventual loss of control in 2022.
But New York City officials are preparing to defund the police thanks to Joe Biden’s biggest failure.
Adams: Just kidding about being a sanctuary city
New York City mayor Eric Adams is doing all sorts of flip flops these days.
He used to proclaim that illegal aliens were welcome in his Sanctuary City, but he’s now doing a complete 180.
Over 100,000 illegal aliens have arrived in the Big Apple since last spring, which Adams calls a “crisis” that will “destroy” the city.
A Democrat disaster from the federal to the local level
With Joe Biden and his administration completely failing to secure the southern border, politicians like Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) decided to send busloads of illegal aliens to Democrat-led sanctuaries like New York City.
New York City is now spending $10 million per day on the new arrivals.
Shelters, hospitals, and other facilities are being stretched to the breaking point.
Given the current state of affairs, the city is now left with nothing but bad options.
City officials have announced plans to cut funds from the NYPD budget and use it to pay for services for illegal aliens.
With overtime spending also slated for cuts, Police Benevolent Association Patrick Henry sees trouble ahead.
“It is going to be impossible for the NYPD to significantly reduce overtime unless it fixes its staffing crisis,” he said. “We are still thousands of cops short, and we’re struggling to drive crime back to pre-2020 levels without adequate personnel.”
It all couldn’t have come at a worse time as crime rates have skyrocketed over the past three years.
Budget Director Jacques Jiha said in a memo that they will “issue a directive to implement an overtime reduction initiative for our city’s four uniformed agencies.”
The NYPD, the fire department, the corrections department, and the department of sanitation, which are all necessary departments for the well-being of residents, will be subject to budget cuts.
Even with the reallocation of funds, the continued influx means that some illegal aliens who had been given indoor sleeping arrangements may soon lose them.
Adams said in an interview with PIX-11 that “we’re going to have to eventually move women and children into congregant settings. Some migrants might have to move into outside tents. This is not an academic exercise, this is not a utopia. New York City cannot manage 10,000 people a month with no end in sight. That can’t happen, and that is going to undermine this entire city.”
All in all, it’s a sad state of affairs for a city that votes Democrat in every election.
