Last Wednesday, GOP Presidential hopefuls engaged in the third Republican Primary debate.
Former President Donald Trump did not attend the debate.
But Nikki Haley nearly walked off the stage after this chant broke out in front of her eyes.
Wednesday’s Republican debate exposed flaws and divisions within the Republican Party
Last Wednesday, millions of Americans tuned in to the third Republican Presidential debate.
However, there was one notable omission.
Once again, former President Donald Trump refused to attend the debate, instead hosting a massive rally in southern Florida.
Although Donald Trump did not attend the debate on Wednesday, he has a very powerful and noticeable presence.
For example, right before the beginning of a commercial break, the crowd erupted into pro-Trump chants.
Aside from the pro-Trump chants, there were several other moments that captured headlines.
Most notably, Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley sparred throughout the entire evening, which derailed into vicious name calling.
While addressing criticisms regarding his usage of the Chinese owned social media app TikTok, Vivek Ramaswamy said that “she made fun of me for actually joining TikTok while her own daughter was actually using the app for a long time. So you might want to take care of your family first.”
The crowd immediately began booing and Nikki Haley jumped in and said “leave my daughter out of your voice. You’re just scum.”
Another notable takeaway from the debate was Vivek Ramaswamy’s attacks on RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
“Since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost 2018, 2020, 2022, [the] Red wave that never came,” Ramaswamy said. “We got trounced last night in 2023.”
He added that “we have to have accountability in our party. For that matter, Ronna, if you want to come on stage tonight, you want to look the GOP voters in the eye and tell them you resign, I will yield my time to you.”
Following the debate, Ronna McDaniel responded to these attacks and said that “I’m not running for anything. So let’s focus on Joe Biden and beating the Democrats. That’s what I’m going to do.”
What Wednesday’s debate means for the Republican Party moving forward
Wednesday’s GOP debate will likely have little to no effect on the future of the Republican Party or the 2024 elections.
Donald Trump is leading in the polls by significant margins and his absence from the debate made the event effectively pointless.
By skipping the debates, Donald Trump has demonstrated to his supporters that he does not believe he requires the blessing of the GOP Party to do anything.
More likely than not, this infuriates Ronna McDaniels, who is currently fighting for her professional life after the horrible results last Tuesday in Virginia and elsewhere.
