Most people can remember having a crush on one of their teachers, but like most childhood ideas, these were nothing more than daydreams.
However, in Missouri, a married 24-year-old high school teacher named Rikki Lynn Laughlin turned the tables on this age-old motif by having a crush on one of her underaged students.
To make matters worse, Laughlin allegedly acted on these feelings after following one of her students on Snapchat, where she regularly flirted with the young man.
She then took things up a notch and sent him nude photos and sexually explicit videos in exchange for sexually explicit photos of the boy.
Laughlin also allegedly asked the 16-year-old to come over to her home while her husband was away with the intention of having sexual relations with him.
This made the young man feel uncomfortable, prompting him to tell his parents about the illicit love affair.
According to police reports, Laughlin was eventually charged with possession of child porn, tampering with a victim, attempted statutory rape, sexual exploitation of a minor, tampering with physical evidence, and sexual trafficking of a child.
She was also charged with one misdemeanor count of furnishing pornographic materials to minors.
Needless to say, these are some very serious charges that can carry significant prison sentences, fines, and the possibility that Laughlin will be forced to register as a sex offender.
Laughlin’s boss, School District Superintendent Tim Webster, said in a statement that she was “immediately escorted from school property and placed on leave pending investigation.”
“The District takes these matters seriously and reports allegations to appropriate outside agencies, including law enforcement,” he added. “Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our students, and we do not tolerate any policy or law violations within our educational community.”

Although this case may seem shocking, similar incidents happen on a regular basis all across the country.
Not only did Laughlin’s actions more likely than not destroy her marriage and career, but they also harmed the young man whom she sexually groomed.
This love affair undoubtedly proved a major distraction to the young man, who ought to be focusing on his future instead of having a relationship with his married teacher.
