Democrats are keenly aware that a large majority of Americans support voter ID laws and more feel that it is too easy to vote rather than too difficult.
The leftist legislative push for “voting rights” is really all about enabling Democrats to federalize elections, taking control away from the states and making it harder to safeguard against fraud.
Senator Tim Scott knows what the Left is up to, and that’s why he blasted Joe Biden and the Democrats for lying to Americans.
In a partisan, race-baiting speech in Atlanta last week, Biden asked Senators to “stand up to voter suppression” by changing long-standing Senate rules to pass so-called “voting rights legislation” – which actually is a federal takeover of each state’s elections – that have been blocked by Republicans and two maverick Democrats.
Biden equated the wrongs of 1960s-era civil rights battles to laws recently enacted to ensure the integrity of America’s elections.
Republicans universally criticized the speech and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell accused Biden of using the “brutal hatred of Jim Crow Segregation” to smear states’ new voting laws.
During a heated debate over the President’s voting federalization gambit, Senator Scott said, “To have a conversation and a narrative that is blatantly false is offensive, not just to me or Southern Americans, but offensive to millions of Americans who fought, bled and died for the right to vote. So if we’re going to have an honest conversation about the right to vote, let’s engage in that based on the facts of the laws that are being passed, not the rhetoric surrounding those laws, where it looks like power is more important than people.”
Later that evening, the Democrats’ push to change the filibuster rules in order to pave the way to the bill’s passage with a simple majority rule, failed with all 50 Republican Senators joining with Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) in opposition.
Sen. Scott has criticized the Democrats for their opportunistic flip-flopping on the virtues of the filibuster for some time.
In a March interview, Scott told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade that it was “frustrating and irritating” to see Democrats use the filibuster the previous year to block his proposed police reform bill that he believes would help the black community.
Scott said of the Democrats, “They were for the filibuster before they were against the filibuster. I keep asking myself, ‘Will the real Chuck Schumer please stand up?’ Is it the one who was for the filibuster or is it the new one who is now against the filibuster?”
The Senator then said that Democrats “use the word ‘racist’ whenever they are trying to scare people into their corner. It has nothing to do with race. But they don’t care. Winning at all costs means losing at some point.”
