The Democrat Party seems to have an outsized influence on the news media.
But rising voices in independent media are challenging the status quo.
And the latest action against Alex Jones should be a major warning for the entire news industry.
Alex Jones wrecked a decades-long career with one major mistake
Alex Jones began his career in broadcasting in the early 1990s.
As a novice in the industry, Jones worked on a live call-in show that was broadcast on public access television before switching to radio.
By 1999, Jones was ready to start his own broadcast company called Infowars.
The show started out with mail-order documentaries that were often derided as conspiracy theory content.
In 2001, Jones made a crazy prediction about terrorists destroying the World Trade Center and specifically stated “a Bin Laden type” that was connected to the CIA would do it.
Months later, the Twin Towers fell in New York and Jones’ credibility in the so-called conspiracy theory groups soared.

Over 25 years later, his audience has continued to grow and Jones has become more influential and more controversial.
In 2018, he began considering the possibility that the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 was orchestrated to crack down on gun ownership.
And after years of floating crazy conspiracy theories, Jones was deplatformed and served with a major lawsuit.
Jones warned in June that the government was seeking to shut down Infowars
According to the Texas Tribune, a group of families representing eight deceased victims sued Jones for “suffering caused by years of lies that the massacre was a hoax.”
Jones called the court a “show trial” and claimed that he never got a fair hearing.
In 2022, a Connecticut jury found Jones liable and ordered him to pay over $1 billion in damages.
The problem is that Jones has nowhere near that amount of money.
According to a recent report by the Associated Press, “Jones has about $9 million in personal assets” and Infowars parent company, Free Speech Systems, has about $7.2 million in assets.
Jones began warning this summer that the company he built wouldn’t be his for much longer.
“The situation with Infowars being shut down by the government is accelerating,” he said in June.
Infowars was on the verge of being totally taken over and the government “locking the doors, seizing equipment, etc.”
“If the government shuts down Infowars, the backlash against the regime will be historic. This will only further increase support for Trump and an electoral revolution in November,” he added.
Now it appears that his worst fears are coming to life.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez is reportedly planning to approve the sale of InfoWars at auction starting on November 13.
The rights to all of Infowars’ intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrighted content, social media accounts, and websites will be up for grabs.
Chris Mattei, a lawyer representing some of the families, said that the “decision was a significant step forward.”
“The Connecticut families have always sought a fair and equitable distribution of Free Speech System’s assets for all of the families,” he said.
“FSS will not be sold at auction, meaning Alex Jones will no longer own or control the company he built. This brings the families closer to their goal of holding him accountable,” Mattei added.
Jones has since issued a response to the reports by saying that he has a plan to make sure his company doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.
Jones is concerned that “the good bidders will get blocked out” and the company will be sold “for nothing.”
“That’s why we’ve got a lot of plans and things behind the scenes to make sure it’s all fair,” he said.

Whatever the outcome of the auction, the American media landscape will never be the same after this case.
This is the beginning of using lawfare to push out free speech in favor of a world where dissenting voices get punished.
