The latest public school enrollment numbers are leaving Educrats speechless

Woke social justice warriors have been controlling American schools for decades.

Behind the backs of parents, teachers and school administrators replaced the reading, writing, and arithmetic with Critical Race Theory, gender-bending propaganda, and communist misinformation.

But now Educrats are stunned to find out how parents are changing the game.

Democrats just can’t understand why enrollment in government-run schools is plummeting.

After COVID sent kids home to participate in distance learning, parents got to see first-hand just what their kids were learning.

Instructors teaching lessons on racial identity politics, telling students doctors wrongly assigned gender at birth, and that capitalism is the root of all evil.

It’s no surprise to rational people, but a shock to the system of woke Twitter mob and Democrat lawmakers, that government-run schools are now starting to pay the price for failing in their duties to educate children and prepare them for the real world.

American Enterprise Institute has paired with the College Crisis Initiative of Davidson College to monitor over 8,000 public school districts’ instructional statuses on a weekly basis.

Their national study found America’s government-run schools have lost at least 1.2 million students since 2020, with no sign of a rebound any time soon.

“This has been a seismic hit to public education,” said Marguerite Roza, director of the Edunomics Lab at Georgetown University. “Student outcomes are low. Habits have been broken. School finances are really shaken. We shouldn’t think that this is going to be like a rubber band that bounces back to where it was before.”

As New York Times reporter Shawn Hubler reports, the dearth of students has school administrators panicking.

“School funding is tied directly to enrollment numbers in most states,” Hubler wrote. “And while federal pandemic aid has buffered school budgets so far, the Biden Administration has made it clear that the relief is finite. Some districts are already bracing for budget shortfalls.”

The study found government-run schools from large metropolitan areas, the suburbs, and even rural districts have all been impacted by the rapid decline in student enrolment.

However, the decrease isn’t equal across the country.

The AEI/CCIDC study found Red States that resisted some of the more strenuous and seemingly never-ending COVID restrictions are experiencing the same loss of students in public schools.

Enrollment numbers in Florida, for example, have returned to near pre-COVID levels and are trending upwards.

Meanwhile, private, charter, and parochial schools are seeing sharp increases in enrollment.

The National Association of Independent Schools and the National Catholic Educational Association have reported increases that total about 73,000 K-12 students during the past two years.

And according to PBS, the number of homeschooling students increased by 63% in the 2020-2021 school year – then fell by only 17% in the 2021-2022 school year.
