More and more Americans are unplugging and ditching their electric vehicles (EVs) for traditional gas-powered vehicles.
The return of the classic muscle car is going pedal to the metal.
And this classic muscle car just sold for an all-time record price.
America’s love affair with EVs, hybrids, and wimpy 4-cylinder engines appears to be over.
A whopping $3.3 million muscle car
The muscle car is back!
And it’s bigger and badder than ever before.
In May of 2022, a Dark Green 1969 Dodge HEMI Charger Daytona sold at auction for $1.32 million.
This set a new record at the time.
But that record was smashed by a low-mileage version that sold for $1.43 million in January of 2023.
And just over a year later, the green HEMI is once again the world’s most expensive Daytona.
The muscle car just sold at Mecum’s Monterey 2024 auction for a whopping $3.3 million!
So not only did it become the most expensive 1969 Charger Daytona ever auctioned, but it also reached a price of more than double the previous record holder.
It also became the first Daytona in history to be auctioned for more than both the $2 million and $3 million marks.
Even some muscle car enthusiasts are wondering just why anyone would pay $3.3 million for the Dark Green winged Daytona.
For starters, the Daytona in question is a museum-grade classic.
And it still sports almost all of its original components, including the sheet metal.
The car certainly looks the part and could easily win top awards at any classic car show.
A very rare beast indeed
This 1969 Daytona is also extremely rare due to its unique drivetrain combo.
Dodge produced 503 Charger Daytonas for official NASCAR certification in 1969.
But only 70 with the powerful 426-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) HEMI V8 engine were ordered.
Of these, only 22 were also fitted with the highly sought after four-speed manual gearbox.
This car is one of those 22, and it includes all the proper number-matching parts.
The drivetrain specs are already rare enough, but this Mopar is even more unique when you consider the color combo.
While the F8 Dark Green paint scheme is on a few Daytonas, this $3.3 million beast is the only one with a C6G green vinyl interior.
All together this makes it a genuine one-of-a-kind classic.
But that’s not all.
This “winged warrior” is also the most highly optioned HEMI Daytona known to be in existence.
The first owner ordered the vehicle with a long list of special options, including the 4.10 Super Track Pak, P31 power windows, N51 Max Cooling Package, A01 Light Package, and color-matched stamped wheels.
It also features the N85 Tic-Toc-Tach, G11 All-Tinted glass, S81 wood grain steering wheels, C62 six-way adjustable driver’s seat, and C55 headrest bucket seats.
In addition to setting a record for Dodge Charger Daytonas, this Mopar is also the most expensive “winged warrior” out there.
The previous record was held by a 1970 Plymouth HEMI Superbird that sold for $1.65 million in 2022.
The HEMI Daytona was auctioned off with four other classics from the Nevada Collection.
A 1970 Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda Convertible, one of only 14 made, sold for $2 million, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing went for $1.7 million, a V-code 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda sold for $390,500, and a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (one of 199 made) went for $522,500.
But it was the Green Daytona that made the news.
