President Biden has resided over the largest lapse in border security in the history of the United States.
Title 42 protections enacted under Donald Trump recently expired.
And now this one terrifying prediction Border Patrol agents made to Congress is coming true.
Border Patrol Chief admitted in March that he had lost “operational control” over the border
On March 15, the House Committee on Homeland Security held a field hearing in McAllen, Texas, to assess the situation on the ground near the southern border of the United States. Members of Congress interviewed Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz to expose the Biden administration’s policy failures.
During his testimony, Ortiz discussed the benefits of a border wall, the staggering number of known got-aways, and the amount of fentanyl coming across the border. He said they had seen a “101 percent increase in fentanyl seizures between the ports of entry” that amounted to 1,117 pounds.
Perhaps the most shocking thing that Ortiz said during the hearing was in response to a question asked by Republican Chairman Mark Green, who wanted to know if Ruiz and his agency had “operational control” over the border. The Chief of the Border Patrol said that he did not have “operational control” over the border.
Fast forward two months, and this statement is ringing truer than ever before.
We have diminished the number of available Border Patrol agents
At the time of his testimony, crossings by illegal aliens were averaging approximately 5,000 per day. Last week, following the expiration of Title 42, illegal border crossings hit a staggering 10,000 per day. That’s over 5 times the level that they were at when President Trump left office.
Officials with Border Patrol believe this number will rise to between 11,000 and 16,000 crossings each day. That means Americans could see an additional 2.5 million illegal aliens enter the country by the end of 2023. That is nearly equal to the entire population of the city of Chicago, which is the third most populated city in the United States.
As the amount of illegal aliens trying to enter the country increases, the number of available agents on the border decreases. Brandon Judd, the President of the National Border Patrol Council, said with this level of illegal aliens, Americans can expect to have 30 percent or less of the available agents patrolling the border.
He said that this will ultimately result in a major national security situation at the southern border.
Representative Mayra Flores says that the border situation is “going to get really bad”
As pressure is put on Border Patrol agents to address these record levels, Judd warned that “the cartels are able to gain ground on the vast majority of our border” and take full control of certain areas. If the numbers get much higher, he said “the cartels will own every inch of the border.”
Republican Representative Mayra Flores (R-TX) warned that “it’s going to get really bad.” She said she’s worried about the country, but also “about the innocent children…being brought to the United States illegally, then abandoned in the middle of nowhere.”
Flores’ husband is a Border Patrol agent, so she knows firsthand what they are going through. “Our Border Patrol agents are exhausted. They can’t apprehend everyone coming in. So you have cartels taking advantage of our weak immigration policies,” she said in a statement.
