It’s no secret that crime is running rampant in Democrat-controlled cities around the country.
But leftist politicians are more concerned about punishing law-abiding citizens than they are with stopping crime.
And the Democrat Mayor of St. Louis said business owners should be held accountable for one shocking reason.
St. Louis has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country.
Politicians should be held accountable, not law-abiding citizens
In fact, the violent crime rate in River City has been sky high for years.
Most people realize the problem stems from the pro-crime policies of Democrat politicians.
But the politicians believe it’s the law-abiding citizens of St. Louis who are to blame.
In fact, St. Louis Democrat Mayor Tishaura Jones recently suggested that the city should “hold business owners accountable” for crimes committed on their premises.
This disturbing comment shows just how far the Democrats are willing to go to punish their own citizens instead of violent criminals.
Jones made her disgusting comments during the recent Memphis meeting of the Black Mayors’ Coalition on Crime, which ended on March 28.
While the discussions during the conference were closed to the media, Jones gave an interview about the strategies that were discussed in the conference.
Jones told WMC-TV that “we have a lot of violence around convenience stores and gas stations. So how can we hold those business owners accountable and also bring down crime? Some of the things are already doing, we’re finding other Mayors are doing as well.”
Instead of cracking down on violent criminals, Jones wants to crack down on local businesses who are the victims of violent crimes.
Democrats say crime isn’t rising, you just think it is
In addition to Jones’ ridiculous and draconian belief that business owners, not city government officials, should be held accountable for violent crimes on business property, there was more absurdity from the conference.
Other meeting attendees even suggested that the problem isn’t that crime is rising, but that people think it’s rising.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young said “we are solidified and resolved in the fact that we are stronger together. The national crime data may show some decreases in overall crime stats, but what we discussed today is that if people don’t feel safe, then the statistics don’t matter.”
But Young simply ignores the fact that the statistics clearly show that crime in Memphis has gotten considerably worse in recent years and not better as he claimed.
The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission noted that overall crime, property crime, and violent crime all saw significant increases in 2023 compared to 2022.
It’s even worse in St. Louis.
By every measurable crime statistic, St. Louis is one of the worst cities for crime in America.
The city even received an “F” rating from CrimeGrade.org.
St. Louis has had one of the highest murder rates and violent crime rates in the nation for years.
Jones has been the Mayor of St. Louis since 2021.
It’s time for voters to hold Jones responsible and replace her with a Mayor who cares more about stopping crime than shutting down businesses.
