Leftists thought that the weight of multiple indictments against the former President would trip up his chances for re-election.

But the political pundits’ predictions have been wrong, as evidenced by polling, and Democrats are starting to panic.

And Morning Joe panelists are losing sleep over this one aspect of Donald Trump’s campaign.

The Democrats’ lawfare tactics against former President Trump are not having the desired effect.

Polling shows Trump is leading in just about every swing state, and with numbers far higher than during his 2016 and 2020 Presidential campaigns.

At the same time, Joe Biden has faced unending questions about his ability to win a second term given his widely perceived cognitive decline and frequent verbal and physical missteps.

While one major knock on Trump has been his supposed lack of focus, even his political detractors are now complaining that waiting for him to trip himself up doesn’t seem to be paying any dividends.

Gabriel Sherman wrote an article in Vanity Fair discussing this topic entitled, Inside the Terrifyingly Competent Trump 2024 Campaign.

Vanity Fair reporter: Trump is running a “low-drama campaign” focused on winning

During an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Sherman said that “the big story in 2016 and to some extent 2020, was that his campaign was a soap opera. It was clashing personalities, it was nonstop drama. This cycle, the thing I’ve been struck by time and again, is that it is a low-drama campaign. Operatives don’t want press, don’t want their egos out there. They’re focused on getting Trump to the White House in November 2024.”

“As I write in the piece, his freedom is at stake, really, the only thing that is guaranteed to keep Donald Trump out of jail is becoming the next President of the United States and appointing an Attorney General who will get these charges thrown out,” he continued. “It’s really that simple. I think that is really why you see Donald Trump so focused. Yes, he says incendiary things on the stump, but when it comes to the mechanics of running the campaign, it is a much different operation.”

The fear on the part of Sherman and the Morning Joe hosts is palpable.

But it wasn’t supposed to be this way.

If an unending stream of indictments from judges in left-wing jurisdictions couldn’t take out the hated Trump, then surely, they thought, his own “drama” would do him in.

He added that “this is a candidate who does create his own controversies, but, you know, that really is baked in now, I think, to his brand. I think the mechanics, the underlying ground game, you know, the getting the state parties in line, getting the Republican National Committee in line is really, I think, what is fueling this success he’s had on the campaign trail. Now, apparently, he’s got the money behind him, as well.”

That Trump is running a “terrifyingly competent” campaign shouldn’t come as a surprise to pundits.

The fact that his detractors keep underestimating him may indeed be a major component of his political success.

After all, Trump came within 40,000 votes in three states from winning a second term in 2020 while Joe Biden drastically underperformed his polling numbers.

In the intervening years, one inescapable fact is that Joe Biden has gotten significantly less popular.

The real fear that Sherman, the Morning Joe hosts, and Democrats have is that if Trump can’t be sidelined through some process or external event, then it means Joe Biden will have to convince the American public that he deserves another four years in office.

It’s no wonder they are starting to panic.
