British comedian, Russell Brand, has been a lightning rod for controversy.

He’s even been accused of multiple sexual assaults.

But actor Russell Brand just made one major announcement that shocked his fans into stunned silence.

The controversial actor and comedian Russell Brand recently announced that he was baptized in the Thames River.

Not the same kind of transition that has been sweeping the entertainment industry

Brand added that the experience left him “changed” and “transitioned.”

Of course, his transition isn’t the same kind that some in the entertainment industry have been pursuing.

Instead, Brand is transitioning into the Christian life.

The 48-year-old comedian had previously called baptism an “opportunity to leave the past behind.”

Brand’s baptism comes less than a year after a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary revealed multiple allegations of sexual assault against him.

In an April 29 Instagram post, Brand told his followers that, “Yesterday, I got baptized and it was an incredible, profound experience. Many of you will have had your own experiences of baptism and will therefore know what I’m talking about.”

“Many aspects of it were very intimate and personal,” he continued.

Brand then went on to compare his baptism to his well-documented past drug use.

“The truth is this, as a person that has in the past taken many, many substances and always been disappointed with their inability to deliver the kind of tranquility and peace and even transcendence I always felt I’ve been looking for, something occurred in the process of baptism that was incredible, overwhelming – literally overwhelming because I was obviously underwater, and it was the River Thames – at some points,” he continued. “So I felt changed, transitioned.”

He ended his video message by expressing his love for his viewers and fans by saying that, “I’m so grateful to be surrendered in Christ.”

Alleged rape allegations

The outspoken Brand has had a controversial career.

He has made a name for himself outside of Hollywood, by producing long YouTube videos that cover a wide array of topics like modern culture, spirituality, and politics.

Brand had specifically stated that he was attracted to the Christian sacrament of baptism after understanding that “it’s an opportunity to die and be reborn. An opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in Christ’s name.”

Brand continued his explanation by referencing a well-known Bible verse.

“Like it says in Galatians: that you can live as an enlightened and awakened person,” he said. “People are so cynical about the increasing interest in Christianity and the return to God, but to me, it’s obvious. As meaning deteriorates in the modern world, as our value systems and institutions crumble, all of us become increasingly aware that there is this eerily familiar awakening and beckoning figure that we’ve all known all of our lives, within us and around us.”

“And for me, it’s very exciting,” he added.

Brand’s baptism comes as a formal investigation has been launched into his alleged sexual misconduct.

Four women have accused Brand of sexual misconduct, but did so only after the media approached them on the subject.

The accusations also popped up after he started attacking the wokeism and elitism that has become so pervasive throughout American culture.

“This is so clear that they hate his guts because of the things he’s been saying lately,” Pat Gray told Glenn Beck in September of 2023.

Around that same time, Beck said that, “Last week, YouTube said it would stop Brand from making money from the streaming site where he has 6.6 million subscribers due to the serious allegations against him.”

Brand said he has been reading the Bible and the works of C.S. Lewis and they helped bring him around to the Christian worldview.

In a social media post shared in January, Brand said that, “the reason I wear a cross is because Christianity and, in particular, the figure of Christ, are, it seems to me, inevitably becoming more important as I become more familiar with suffering, purpose, self, and not self.”

We can only hope his conversion to Christianity is real.
