The 2024 NFL season is looming.

With this year’s NFL draft out of the way, teams are getting set for their pre-season training camps and fans are devouring all of their teams’ news.

And fans were horrified after a star for the Houston Texans was one of 10 victims in a recent shooting.

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was wounded early last Sunday morning after a party in Sanford, Florida, turned violent.

A real-life shooting gallery

According to The Western Journal, the party turned into a real-life shooting gallery that left 10 victims wounded.

The Texans broke the news about Dell being shot in a post on X.

“We have been made aware that Tank Dell was a victim of a shooting in Sanford, Fl., last night,” they wrote. “He sustained a minor wound, but has been released from the hospital and he is in good spirits.”

“We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate, but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time,” they continued. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”

Dell is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, which is about 40 miles from Sanford.

According to a report from Houston’s KPRC-TV, Dell was in Florida to visit his mother in Daytona Beach.

10 people are recovering after being wounded in the shootout.

The good news is that officials said all of the injuries were non-life threatening.

Dell has since been released from the hospital and is recovering.

According to the Associated Press, the early Sunday morning shooting took place after a teenage opened fire during a private party.

A fight broke out just before the shooting.

The shooting spree ended after a security guard tackled the gunman and disarmed him.

A second guard then restrained the shooter with handcuffs, according to the arrest report from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

The 16-year-old alleged shooter was charged with attempted homicide, firing a weapon in a public place, using a firearm during a felony, and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor.

The teen was arrested and confined to a juvenile detention facility.

According to the official police report, the shooter was not involved in the fistfight that erupted at the party, but he opened fire after it started.

From a favored quarterback target to a shooting target

Dell, who ended his college career at the University of Houston, was selected by the Houston Texans in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft and was placed on the injured reserve list on December 5, 2023.

During the season, Dell became a favorite target for Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Prior to his injury, Dell had 47 receptions for 709 yards and seven touchdowns.

He also rushed for 51 yards and performed kickoff and punt return duties.

Dell is expected to recover fully from his injuries and return for the 2024 season where he is expected to, once again, be a favorite target of Stroud.

And that is the kind of target Dell hopes he will be from now on.
