Jack Smith is in a race against time to put Donald Trump on trial before the election.

Smith is the Democrats’ ace in the hole to keep the former President out of the White House.

And Jack Smith was blindsided when Matt Gaetz threw him this nasty curveball.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is going on the offensive against Special Counsel Jack Smith.

He asked the Inspector General at the Department of Justice – the agency’s internal watchdog – to open an investigation into Smith to see if his rush to start a trial for former President Donald Trump is influenced by the 2024 election.

Gaetz sent a letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz highlighting Smith’s decision to put a full court press on the Supreme Court to rule as quickly as possible in the trial involving Trump’s claim of Presidential immunity in the January 6 case.

Jack Smith violates Justice Department rules

In the letter, Gaetz pointed out the section of the Justice Department’s Justice Manual about having an impact on an election.

“Federal prosecutors and agents may never select the timing of any action, including investigative steps, criminal charges, or statements, for the purpose of affecting any election, or for the purpose of giving an advantage or disadvantage to any candidate or political party. Such a purpose is inconsistent with the Department’s mission and with the Principles of Federal Prosecution,” the Justice Manual states.

Gaetz said Smith “tacitly concedes” to a violation of that rule in a December filing with the Supreme Court where he asked the Justices to skip the appeals court process and rule on the matter.

“Specifically, that reply brief repeatedly urges ‘rapid’ review of the federal prosecution of Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump, and the incredible ‘public importance’ of the case, without once explicitly stating why the rapidity is warranted, or what the public importance is,” Gaetz wrote.

Smith has been urging federal courts to act as quickly as possible in Trump’s case because he claims there’s a public interest to have the matter resolved as fast as possible.

“So, there can be only one conclusion: Special Counsel Jack Smith sees it as of paramount importance to hold a trial before the November 2024 election, but he is unable to explicitly say so, as such a justification is in violation of Departmental policy and law,” Gaetz added.

Gaetz: Jack Smith is engaging in a partisan witch hunt

Gaetz told the Daily Wire that Smith hasn’t explained his rush to get Trump on trial as quickly as possible.

“The witch hunt against President Trump by Attorney General Garland and Special Counsel Smith is a partisan exercise, and the American people know it,” Gaetz said. “The actions of the Special Counsel Smith to speed up the trial against President Trump violate the DOJ’s rules and the law. His public comments and his office’s briefs before the Supreme Court demonstrate that he has no reason for his actions other than to unlawfully interfere in the 2024 Presidential election.”

A criminal conviction against Trump is the Hail Mary for Democrats in the election.

Polling shows that it could shave off enough support from Trump to re-elect President Joe Biden.

Democrats are banking on Jack Smith to win the 2024 election in a courtroom.
