From Rocky to Rambo, Sylvester Stallone is one of the most popular actors of all time.

But another actor who came of age around the same time is also a key part of the action movie genre.

And this iconic actor tricked Sylvester Stallone into starring in one bad movie in the 1990s.

Arnold Schwarzenegger admits to tricking Stallone

Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone had an action-movie heyday back in the 1980s and 1990s.

The two actors competed for virtually everything, including the best body, the best guns, and the best movie scripts.

In 1991, Schwarzenegger managed to trick Stallone into starring in a terrible movie called Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

The movie also stars Golden Girls actress Estelle Getty as Stallone’s mother.

Schwarzenegger admitted that he was able to get his agent to lie to Stallone’s agent about his desire to star in the film.

He also said he spoke with the director Roger Spottiswoode about it.

During a sneak peek of TMZ’s special Arnold & Sly, Schwarzenegger said, “My agent [told Stallone’s agent] ‘Arnold is talking to Roger Spottiswoode and he’s really into it. I think we’re going to take the project.’”

“And then, of course, his agent, knowing he’s competitive with me – he can’t let that happen. And so, he then called the studio right away, ‘Look, you’ve got to give this to Sly! Don’t give it to Schwarzenegger. Give it to Sly,’” he continued.

Schwarzenegger said that they agreed to give the movie to Stallone and that he was “in absolute Heaven” because he felt like the only way he “could catch up with him is if he had a stumble.”

“Can you get more Machiavellian?” a stunned Stallone responded.

Schwarzenegger said, “We’ve got to go and have him have a failure,” to which Stallone exclaimed, “Unbelievable!”

Despite the terrible reviews, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot made $40.6 million at the global box office and Stallone received the worst actor trophy at the Golden Raspberry Awards for his character, Sergeant Joseph Andrew Bomowski.

The Two Actors Remain Friends Today

Although Schwarzenegger tricked Stallone into taking the role, the two remain close friends today.

“When we both invested in Planet Hollywood, we started flying around the world together to promote it and we became fantastic friends. He is a great human being and we are now inseparable,” Schwarzenegger said.

The two actors have starred together in four action films: The Expendables (2010), The Expendables 2 (2012), Escape Plan (2013), and The Expendables 3 (2014).

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are also both set to star in separate projects.

Stallone will reprise his role in the second season of the Paramount+ dramedy Tulsa King, while Schwarzenegger is reprising his role in the comedy series FUBAR on Netflix.
