When you hear that violent crime levels have lowered, normally it’s a cause for celebration.
But the news comes with a major catch in this particular case.

After the death of George Floyd came the riots and looting during the Summer of 2020.
Calls to “defund the police” were flying fast and furiously from the political Left.
In Democrat-controlled cities, these ill-conceived ideas were put into action with disastrous consequences.
Criminal activity skyrocketed after police departments in cities across the country began to see a wave of retirements among cops.
But Joe Biden’s open borders and the arrival of eight-million illegal immigrants have made a bad situation worse.
Already-understaffed police departments in sanctuary cities now have tens of thousands of new people to protect and serve.
But the news is a bit different several thousands of miles away on another continent.
The homicide rate in Venezuela has dropped faster than Joe Biden on a bicycle.
Roberto Briceño León is the director of the Venezuelan Violence Observatory.
In a recent webcast, he released statistics showing that the rate of violent deaths in his country per 100,000 inhabitants decreased to 26.8 this year from a rate of 35.3 for every 100,000 inhabitants in 2022.
That sounds like great news until we take into account that the reason for the decline is that tens of thousands of Venezuelans have fled that country and illegally immigrated to the United States.

The most recent example is how an illegal immigrant from Venezuela brutally murdered Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.
A social media user called TaraBull wrote on X that “Biden posted 27 times about George Floyd yet he hasn’t said a word about Laken Riley. The media has referred to her killer as a ‘Georgia man’, when in fact he’s an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. They exploit tragedies to use for their benefit and bury the rest.”

Sensing danger for Democrats, the media has chosen not to focus on the problem at hand, which is the completely porous southern border made possible by the Biden administration.
CNN’s Jake Tapper begrudgingly admitted that Riley’s killer was an illegal immigrant, but he seemed more concerned about that fact getting out than the underlying crime.
“Republicans, obviously, are seizing on this horrific tragedy at the University of Georgia,” Tapper said. “They’re seizing on this as an example of Biden’s failure to protect the American people and secure the border.”

Facts are stubborn things when you’re responsible for bad policy.
The fact that criminals from Venezuela are emptying out of their country and committing acts of violence against Americans should be concerning to all.
A change in border policy back to what was in place while Trump was President would be welcome, but it may be too late when it comes to public safety.
